Lobes of the Cerebral Cortex

This is the Cerebral cortex, with its four lobes labeled.

Frontal Lobe:  Considered to be the emotional control center and home to the personality of a human being. It is involved in motor function, spontaneity, memory, language, initiation, problem solving, judgement, impulse control and social as well as sexual behavior.

Temporal Lobe: The right temporal lobe of the brain is used for purposes such as problem solving, decision making, motor behavior and also impulse control. It is also used for making judgements for memory, social behavior and sexual behavior.

Occipital Lobe: Control mostly vision, color recognition, and other vision related tasks within
the brain.

Parietal Lobe: Receives sensory input for touch and body position.

  1. This link provides more information on the four lobes of the brain: http://psychology.about.com/od/biopsychology/ss/brainstructure_2.htm
The page discusses the functions of the lobes as you wrote down and it also discusses what would happen if any of these lobes were damaged. I find this to be a key part in looking at the lobes of the brain, because when you look at what would happen if any part of the lobes were damaged, you see the true vitality that they possess. For example, if the parietal lobe was damaged, it can result in problems with verbal memory and you would face problems with language.

  2. The parietal lobe also controls language. That is because the wernicke's area is located there.
